ARBITRATION

Lawyers from The Law Counsel have been involved in arbitration proceedings both as arbitrators and counsel. The firm successfully defended the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation against a claim for damages for failure to accept delivery of petroleum products.It has also successfully represented a Malaysian company in a multi-million dollar international commercial arbitration for installation of air conditioning and mechanical ventilation equipment at the largest shopping mall in Bangladesh, the Jamuna Future Park. The firm is currently engaged in an arbitration involving an insurance claim against the Bangladesh Co-operative Insurance Company. 

The firm also has extensive experience of dealing with litigation arising out of arbitration proceedings. It has both successfully challenged and defended arbitral awards before the courts in Bangladesh. The firm is currently involved in enforcing an ICC award against the Bangladesh Power Development Board, having successfully prevented challenges to the legitimacy of the award up to the highest court in the country. The firm was recently instructed by a Singapore  based law firm regarding the enforceability in Bangladesh of a foreign arbitral award obtained by a Dutch company

The Head of Chambers,  Mr. Abdur Razzaq has been appointed as an arbitrator on a number of arbitrations. He is currently acting as arbitrator in 3 arbitrations involving construction of bridges and roads In Bangladesh
